3-part virtual training series: Applying community-based social marketing to shorebird conservation management
This three-part workshop guides you through the community-based social marketing (CBSM) framework to develop a tailored CBSM campaign to address disturbance challenges at beach sites related to dog disturbance and disturbance by beach walkers. Each session can be completed asynchronously and includes the following:

This workshop offers practical tools and real-world examples from the shorebird conservation community on how CBSM has been applied to reduce human disturbance to shorebirds. Session One: Selecting behaviors and identifying campaign goals
This session introduces the CBSM framework and its relevance to shorebird conservation. We focus on the first two steps of CBSM: selecting target behaviors and identifying audience-specific benefits and constraints. In this session, you will gain insights into behavior selection, audience understanding, and communication best practices.

Session Two: Site context and behavior change strategies
In this session, we take a deep dive into steps three and four of CBSM and cover the seven behavior change strategies outlined in the framework. We also consider the social and environmental factors that may influence the feasibility and impact of the strategies you want to implement. Several guest speakers from across the Atlantic Flyway join us to share insight about their CBSM campaigns and provide real-world examples and practical implementation advice.

Session Three: Selecting and assessing behavior change strategies
For this final session, we focus on step five of CBSM and discuss how to use logic models to align behavior change strategies with resources and goals and measure outputs and outcomes of behavior change strategies. Therefore, we recommend watching this session with 2-3 behavior change strategies in mind that you might want to implement in your campaign.
